Robin Hill 2023

Visit to Robin Hill, Stokenchurch - 5 July 2023

The day of the visit arrived, together with torrential rain. Luckily we were able to postpone the visit until the following day when we had much better weather and even some sunshine. Robin Hill is approached down a long and winding track and located on the hill above Stokenchurch with far-reaching views over to Radnage.

We were welcomed by Caz Renshaw, a garden designer with a strong interest in gardening for wildlife, who has created a beautiful garden which she describes as “informal cottage garden/prairie style”. On arrival we gathered in a large open meadow area with paths mown through the long grasses and sheltered seating areas for relaxation. It was surrounded by an impressive variety of unusual trees planted by the previous owner. Borders were planted with a selection of shrubs and perennials which blended into the natural landscape. An open gateway offered a glimpse of another larger meadow beyond and wonderful views towards the hills. This led into a large shady wooded area and then into an orchard with more wildlife friendly grasses and shade-loving plants. We then wandered through a small fruit and vegetable plot and admired the chickens before arriving back at the starting point.

A very tempting selection of home-made cakes was laid out in an attractive paved courtyard. After tea we had a final potter around the pretty borders and through hidden pathways before returning home from this beautiful secluded garden.
