Teamwork is the absolute cornerstone of this position. You won't just be operating gear in a corner; you will act as a collaborative partner to the graduate talent coming out of our School of Broadcasting, working hand-in-hand with independent Show Presenters, local musicians, and guest speakers. You will also sync directly with the Audio Content Editors & Archivists to ensure that everything captured in Studio 5 is perfectly prepped to be woven seamlessly into our primary 87.9 FM broadcast loop.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the technical desk operation inside Studio 5, managing microphone levels, audio routing, and multi-track recording for pre-recorded shows.
- Collaborate closely with Show Presenters during their recording blocks to provide real-time timing cues, creative feedback, and structural support.
- Support guest artists and interviewees face-to-face, ensuring they feel welcome, comfortable with the equipment, and set up for an incredible session.
- Work collaboratively with the Audio Content Editors to cleanly package completed Studio 5 master files, adding the standard station jingles and intros before scheduled playback.
- Keep the Studio 5 space organized and report any technical equipment or software needs to the main engineering team.
What We Are Looking For:
- A true team champion who loves helping other creators, presenters, and performers sound their absolute best.
- Solid confidence operating an audio mixing console and using recording software (DAWs). Full orientation on our exact Studio 5 layout will be provided!
- Great communication skills, with a patient and encouraging demeanor when directing people inside a recording environment.
- Reliable, structured, and passionate about capturing the unique grassroots voices and talent of South Birmingham.
