Location: Birmingham Studio (Druids Heath) / On-Site Evening Duty

Commitment: Evening shifts (aligned with live music broadcasts)

About the Role:

Live music shows, phone-ins, and digital requests put a unique demand on our studio gear and networks at night. We are recruiting a Volunteer Evening Technical & IT Support Assistant to join our dedicated Tech Team during our prime broadcasting blocks. In this role, you will be the dedicated on-site tech expert for the night, ensuring that when an Volunteer Evening Show Producer hits a software glitch, a mixing desk issue, or a streaming failure, it is diagnosed and fixed immediately so the music never stops.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide dedicated, live IT and technical troubleshooting during evening broadcast slots to minimize on-air disruptions.
  • Support evening teams with specific music-show needs, such as setting up extra microphones for studio sessions or configuring phone-in lines.
  • Monitor the station’s evening streaming servers, local network stability, and automated playlist playout systems.
  • Work alongside the 2 Evening DSMs to ensure all studio computers, monitors, and broadcast processors are safely powered down or set to automation at lockout.
  • Document any persistent technical bugs or hardware faults in the tech log for the daytime team to review.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Hands-on experience in IT support, audio engineering, or system troubleshooting, with a solid understanding of audio routing.
  • A logical problem solver who can fix technical faults calmly and quickly while a live show is playing out.
  • Reliable availability for evening studio shifts and a passion for supporting community music radio.
