Role Title: Volunteer Weather Reporter

Location: Remote / Hybrid (Studio-based options)

Commitment: Flexible (approx. 2–3 hours per week, providing daily or weekly updates)

About the Role:

Will it rain on the Park festival, or is it sunshine for the farmers' market? We are looking for a self-sufficient Volunteer Weather Reporter to keep South Birmingham moving safely through the seasons. In this role, you take total ownership of your segment—sourcing your own meteorological data, writing your own conversational scripts, and delivering punchy weather updates tailored specifically to our local neighbourhoods.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently source accurate, up-to-date regional weather forecasts using reputable meteorological data and local sensors.
  • Write short, punchy, and conversational radio scripts that link the weather forecast directly to local South Birmingham events and activities.
  • Record your own voice updates or deliver them live to the studio team for inclusion in our daily programming blocks.
  • Ensure forecasts are updated quickly when sudden weather fronts impact the area.

What We Are Looking For:

  • A self-motivated volunteer who enjoys tracking the weather and working independently.
  • Good creative writing skills to make a standard weather forecast sound engaging and natural when spoken aloud.
  • A friendly, warm on-air personality.
