Role Title: Volunteer Radio Script Writer
Location: Remote / Hybrid (Birmingham Studio)
Commitment: 2–4 hours per week (flexible)
About the Role:
Writing for the ear is a unique skill—it needs to be punchy, conversational, and easy for a presenter to read live on-air. We are looking for Radio Script Writers to create the spoken-word content for Hope Radio Brum. You will transform raw local reports and community notices into tight, engaging 30-second to 2-minute scripts, bulletins, and show cues that our studio presenters read out to our listeners across South Birmingham.
Key Responsibilities:
- Adapt raw local news, event listings, and interviews into conversational, easy-to-read broadcast scripts.
- Write short community news bulletins, presenter link scripts, and introductory cues for recorded interview packages.
- Collaborate with studio producers to ensure scripts match the timing constraints of live radio programming.
- Ensure all broadcast material complies with standard Ofcom regulations (guidance provided).
What We Are Looking For:
- A creative writer who understands how to write text that sounds natural when spoken aloud.
- The ability to edit information down into short, punchy, and engaging radio segments.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work to flexible broadcast deadlines.
