Plastic-Bag-Free Kingston gave away something like 270 "good bags" in the Market Place on Saturday 12th September, most of them cotton bags donated by Kingston First, 44 of them colourful cloth bags made out of unwanted remnants at two Transition Town Kingston (TTK) workshops, and 20+ recycled and sample bags given by TTK members. Helped by the sunshine and some very energetic volunteers, every bag, with messages inside about the effects of plastic bags on the environment and TTK events, had gone by lunchtime!

We acquired 27 plastic bags to recycle, gave out countless flyers, stickers and magnets, and we were visited by Susan Kramer MP in the afternoon.

A big thankyou to everyone who helped: bag makers and donors, Kingston First (for bags and a gazebo that in the event we didn't need!), helpers on the stall, and Kingston Parish Church for the space and the table.

Meanwhile, by the riverside...
The Canbury and Riverside Association (CARA) were carrying out a community litterpick along Lower Ham Road and the towpath in North Kingston On just a short stretch of riverside volunteers picked up over 50 plastic bags.
