Could you spare a couple of hours on a Monday morning to help someone build confidence with their technology?
The Glastonbury Digital Cafe relies entirely on friendly, patient volunteers. Many of our visitors feel overwhelmed by updates, layout changes, or just setting up an app. Often, the biggest barrier isn't the technology itself—it is a lack of confidence.
You do not need to be a computer programmer or an IT expert to join us. If you can use a smartphone, download an app, connect to Wi-Fi, or search the internet, you already have the skills needed to make a massive difference to someone's week.
What Does a Digital Volunteer Do?
Our sessions at St John's Church are informal, relaxed, and driven entirely by what our visitors need. On any given Monday, you might find yourself helping someone to:
- Send photos to family members via WhatsApp or email.
- Navigate a tablet to order online shopping or log into an NHS app.
- Adjust font sizes and brightness settings to make a phone easier to read.
- Understand how to spot and avoid online scams or suspicious text messages.
- Simply listen to what they want to achieve and calmly walk them through it step-by-step.
Why Join the Team?
- Make a local impact: You will see the immediate, real-world relief and joy when someone completely clears a digital hurdle.
- Community & Connections: It is a wonderful, social environment where you can meet other community-minded people (and enjoy plenty of tea and biscuits).
- Flexible commitment: We run every Monday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Whether you can make it every week or just once a fortnight, your help is incredibly valuable.
