Frequently Asked Questions

It is completely natural to have a few questions before visiting us for the first time. Below are answers to the questions we get asked most often about how the Glastonbury Digital Cafe works.

Do I need to book an appointment?

No, not at all! Our sessions at St John's Church are completely dropin. You can simply walk in anytime between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM on a Monday morning. When you arrive, you can get a hot drink, and a volunteer will find you a seat.

Is it really completely free?

Yes, entirely free. There are no hidden charges, and you do not need to pay for the tech support or the refreshments. We are a communityled initiative run entirely by volunteers to help local residents get online safely.

What kinds of devices can I bring?

You can bring any portable device you need help with. This includes Apple or Android smartphones, iPads, Android tablets, Kindle e-readers, and Windows or Mac laptops. Just remember to bring your charging cable along with you!

My device is very old. Can you still help me?

Absolutely. We see devices of all shapes, sizes, and ages. Whether your laptop takes ten minutes to turn on or your phone is an older model, we will do our absolute best to help you clean it up, speed it up, or simply make it easier for you to use.

Will you look at my private data or passwords?

Your privacy and security are our top priorities. Our volunteers are here to guide you, not to do it for you. If you need to type in a password, pin code, or log into a secure service like online banking or an NHS app, our volunteers will look away or step back while you do it. We will never ask you to share or write down your private passwords.

I am a absolute beginner and know nothing about computers. Is this group right for me?

You are exactly who we set this up for! There are absolutely no silly questions at the Digital Cafe. We are entirely used to starting from scratch, whether that means learning how to turn a device on, adjusting the screen brightness, or figuring out how to use a touchscreen. We work entirely at your pace.

Can you fix broken hardware or cracked screens?

We specialize in software support, device settings, navigation, and digital confidence. Unfortunately, we cannot repair physically broken hardware, replace cracked screens, or dismantle computers. However, we can often give you advice on whether a faulty device is worth repairing professionally.

Have a different question? If your worry isn't covered here, please feel free to pop in for a chat on a Monday or drop us a line via our Contact Page or by emailing digital.cafe@myinbox.uk.
