It has come to light that under Stockport Council's most recent Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) Peel Moat Open Space (both the derelict pitch and the adjacent Playground and Trim Trail) is designated as 'developable' with enough space to build 35 houses.
FOPMOS requested a question be asked at the March meeting of the Heatons and Reddish Area Committee seeking written assurance that the site will not be sold for housing or any other form of development.
A reply was received which can be seen here:
Answer to Question asked to Heatons and Reddish Area Committee 27 March 2024
This stated that, whilst there are no current plans to develop the site, no formal commitments on its future use have been made.
This is not the reassurance FOPMOS required, therefore an epetition has been lodged on the council website to designate the playground and trim trail portion of the site as a Local Green Space, thus protecting it from future development. As the pitch portion of the site is currently derelict, it does not yet meet the criteria to be designate a LGS, but this will be requested in due course.

It is important that the council understand the strength of feeling on this issue in the local community and the petition sends a message that there is a desire to retain this valuable resource.
