Jubilee Meadow Logo Design Competition - Winners and Runners Up

Heathfield Recreation Ground expanded in the summer of 2022 to include a new nature zone, adding 1.8 hectares of native meadowland to our accessible local green spaces.

As a Friends group, with support from our local Councillors and from the Parks department of the London Borough of Richmond Upon Thames, we proposed dedicating the new nature zone as part of the Jubilee celebrations for Queen Elizabeth II. It seemed a fitting tribute given Queen Elizabeth’s well known love of nature and in the context of the national Jubilee tree-planting campaign. It also felt fitting as the new meadow opens onto the Rec off Coronation Walk, an avenue of trees planted in 1937 to celebrate the coronation of King George VI.

A few months ago we launched a competition for local children to design a logo to help give the new nature zone, Jubilee Meadow, its own identity. We asked for entries that were simple, easy to recognise, and welcoming for everybody who uses Heathfield Rec, with a connection to nature and to the Queen on her Jubilee year.

I am delighted today to share our winners and runners up. Four amazing pieces of artwork, selected in a blind judging process from among the many beautiful entries we received.

The Runners Up

Mia Satinskaite and Hilary Lindley of Twickenham School

Our judges loved the way that this entry reflected the spirit of the Jubilee competition and it is a truly beautiful concept.

Our judges loved the leaf shape and the curve in the centre like a path, and the strong use of green reflecting the wildlife focus of the Meadow.

The Winners

Concept winner: Gianluca, age 10, from Heathfield Junior School

The judges loved the way that Gianluca's entry uses the colours of the grass and paths to create the shape of a Jubilee crown, complete with wildflower verges.

This design really captures the appearance and feel of the meadow and also our hopes for local people to get out and explore, exercise, and have fun there.

Style winner: Michael, age 12, from Turing House School

Michael’s design shows a strong grasp of the purpose and nature of a logo. The simple shapes, distinctive colours, and clear lettering make this entry the most accessible.

The final logo design will therefore combine the concept of the meadow path crown from Gianluca with the style and clarity of Michael’s entry, making them joint winners.

We had a fantastic set of entries and, with such a strong short list of such different designs, the judging process was a real challenge. We are very proud of the creativity of our local young people.

What next?

We look forward to unveiling the final logo and seeing it in use for many years to come. We will also arrange for all the shortlisted entries to be temporarily displayed on the Rec at Jubilee Meadow.
