The Women's Institute Hall - April 2007

East Hanningfield Womens Institue formed in 1917.  Their little green hall was built in 1925, on land provided by the Castle family.

In the Summer issue of East Hanningfield News, Flora Virgoe, the then President, reported,

"We have worked hard during lock-down to keep our 104 year old W.I. alive and well.  Our hall required substantial work to its roof which could not take place without a full inspection of its supports.  It was built in 1925 so many deep breaths, tuts and shaking of head became the normal way to communicate.  We felt the number one issue was keeping the W.I. alive as clearly the cost of work to the hall was well beyond our capability.

"I am delighted to announce that the Village Hall Committee came to our rescue and we are going to hold our meetings once a month in the Village Hall."

The hall was demolished in 2025.
