Our autumn outdoor events managed in large to dodge the wet weather. In September we enjoyed an afternoon out at the Thames Valley Police Open Day in Sulhampstead near Reading. There was lots to see and do with plenty of stalls and some well organised displays from all the emergency services. A police dog display showed just how valuable these can be in apprehending criminals in a variety of different situations including vehicles.

Our recent day trip to Cheltenham was again met by one of those dry days. This trip was by heritage train run by Hastings Diesels which we joined at Reading. The town has lots to see including gardens, the local church and of course the famous Ladies College. Having looked around we then enjoyed lunch in a local café, a welcome refreshment break to watch the world go by. The journey itself allowed us to see some great local countryside as we travelled though Berkshire and Oxfordshire onto Swindon, Kemble and Gloucester before arriving at our destination.

We made another visit to the Rebellion Brewery in early September where there was a chance try out some of the latest beers. Rebellion now has a development brewery making small batches with beers that are both varied and sometimes international in flavour. Some of these will perhaps become regulars on the monthly roster.

Our walks and Quiz Nights continue on a regular basis along with some of the popular events such as Take-away evenings, Pub meals and the occasional trip to the Cinema and Theatre. With Christmas now not far away we are planning this years December events. A night out with a meal and entertainment once again looks popular with several members already interested and booked in.
