Visit to Religious Houses astride Offa's Dyke
Saturday 18th May (see Programme)
Dore Abbey was established in 1147 and was colonised by monks from Morimond Abbey, France.
Norman knight William de Lacy founded a hermitage at Llanthony when he, untypically of the times, abandoned war and embraced religion. By 1118 the hermitage had become a monastery of Augustinian canons, which continued until it was suppressed in 1539.
