On the 15th September we will be holding a produce show in the Trading Hut (which will not be open for normal trading that day).

This is a fun event open to all association members with a range of trophies to be won. Please see the attached rules and entry forms. Entry is free. See if you can gain a First Prize Certificate!

Non-perishable exhibits for the Photography Class, Preserves Class and Cookery Class can be accepted between 18:00 and 20:00 on the 14th September if you wish to drop them off early (at your own risk). Otherwise, these and all other classes will need to be brought between 08:00 and 10:00 on the 15th September ready for the judging to start at 10:00 and all areas will then close whilst judging takes place.
 
The closing deadline for Entries is the 7th September.
 
Results will be announced at 14:00 on the 15th September when the areas will open for everyone to view and refreshments will be served.
 
The Trophies are: -
 
Frank Failes Cup - Most points overall.
Jarvis Cup - Most points in Preserves, Baking and Flower classes.
Rose Bowl - Best in show.
George Davidson Shield – Best Contribution to the Association (Chosen by the Chairman).
Armstrong Cup – Best Exhibit in Class 77
Martin Kempe Memorial Cup – Ugliest Vegetable.

In conjunction over the summer is Tallest Sunflower Competition
 
There will be a Tallest Sunflower competition running over the summer, with the winner announced at the Produce Show on 15th September. As sunflowers mature at different times, please register your sunflower when its ready for measuring via the website a member will be in touch to come and measure your sunflower over the summer.

The last day for measuring will be 6th September.

Produce Show Rules.

It is recommended that exhibitors read the following Produce Show Rules thoroughly.

  1. Exhibitors must give the Show Organisers details of their entries by the stated deadline, or their exhibits may be refused.
  2. Non perishable exhibits for the Photography Class, Preserves Class and Cookery Class can be accepted between 18:00 and 20:00 on the 14th September if wished to drop them off early at your own risk. Otherwise these and all other classes will need to be brought between 08:00 and 10:00 on the 15th September ready for the judging to start at 10:00
  3. The Show Secretary provides a numbered card for each exhibit. The exhibitor must place each card face down under each exhibit and is responsible for the correct placing of these
    cards.
  4. The Judges' awards will be final. First prizes, medals and trophies will be withheld if the judges do not deem the entries to be of sufficient merit.
  5. No exhibitor at a show shall act as a judge for classes in which he/she has an exhibit.
  6. An exhibitor may not stage more than one entry per class.
  7. Only one person per household may exhibit in any class with produce from the same garden and/or allotment, unless the entry is made in joint names.
  8. No person shall exhibit for a prize at any show, any exhibit which has not been in his/her own possession for the three months immediately preceding the show, unless raised by
    himself/herself from seeds or cuttings in a shorter period.
  9. Correct names should be attached to all exhibits staged.
  10. Paper plates will be provided for fruit and veg. Entrants will need to provide their own vases.
  11. Items entered into the Preserves and Cooking classes will be tasted, please list ingredients.
  12. REMOVAL OF EXHIBITS. No exhibit shall be taken down or in any way interfered before 16:00.
  13. All exhibits must be cleared within one hour of the scheduled close of the show.
  14. Dahlias, Chrysanthemums and Flower Arranging must be exhibited, and will be judged in accordance with the regulations of their respective National Societies. All other exhibits will be judged according to the rules and definitions of the Royal Horticultural Society, as printed in the current edition of the Horticultural Show Handbook. Junior and cookery classes excluded. Please note that for judging purposes ornamental Gourds are not classed as vegetables.
  15. The points value of prizes is: 1st prize = 3 points, 2nd prize = 2 points, 3rd prize = 1 point.
  16. The Society will not be responsible for any loss of or damage to exhibits whilst at the show.
  17. In the event of a tie for a Most Points award, the number of first prizes is considered, then the number of second prizes. If it is still a tie, then the award is shared.
