Audax UK is the place to look for long distance endurance events locally and all over the country.
Open Street Map is the place to go for FREE Garmin compatible maps of anywhere in the world, though some parts are mapped in less detail than others. You also get Windows and Mac installable maps, which will work with Garmin Basecamp, in the same zip file.
