A Joint Message from the Chairman and Club President 2021
The last year has been very difficult for everyone but, hopefully, we will be able to put 2020 behind us and go forward with optimism for the future.
The past winter has had rain, ice and snow for us to contend with as well as many restrictions. We can now look forward to the start of the season in the company of friends.
This year, regretfully we will be unable to hold our Opening Day but it has been decided the Green will be opened from Saturday 10th April. With restrictions easing we hope to be able to have our Opening Day format later in the season.
Preparations are under way to ensure everything is in place to ensure the safety of our members. We are liaising with Bowls Scotland and will be letting you know of any changes to the restrictions as and when these happen.
Cleaning and sanitising equipment will be available. The Clubhouse will remain closed but we hope to be able to use the Ladies’ toilets as unisex toilets, once again. Anyone visiting the Club whether members or not must sign the register which will be in the storeroom. Helpful notices will be in place to ensure everyone’s safety. Please take care to follow these. Social distancing must be adhered to.
If anyone who was unable to play last year or new members would like to visit the Club before we open to make sure they are happy with the safeguarding we have put in place please contact one of the Committee to arrange a visit.
Initially, it is anticipated we will be able to play in pairs. We also anticipate a booking system will be required and we are currently trialling an App which will allow members to book rinks. Certain periods will be unavailable due to other commitments such as the Gents Points on a Monday and it is possible only 3 rinks will be available. Further details about the system will be issue nearer the start of the season.
Last year we were unable to play any matches against other clubs but we are proceeding on the basis this will be allowed this year. We will keep you up to date about the matches which have been arranged.
We were very fortunate last year to welcome 4 new members to the Club. Members are needed to ensure the Club continues so please keep your eye open for any potential new members of any age or ability. If anyone tells you that bowling is for boring old folks tell them to watch the bowling competitions being screened and they will realise bowling can be enjoyed at age.
Unfortunately, Lorraine Bannon’ course to becoming a qualified coach has been delayed due to the unforeseen circumstances but she will be progressing as soon as possible. She had some good ideas for our fun day last year which I think we all thoroughly enjoyed.
Due to the generous support of the members and a grant we received we have been able to reduce the fees for 2021. However, in order to try to maintain the annual fee we will be trying to raise funds again and hope for your support. The Hundred Club will be going ahead this year. A payment of £20 per number offers you four chances of winning £100 or £25.
Social functions such as the Suppers are dependent on restrictions being considerably eased or removed.
“It’s now been decided the venues for friendly matches will remain the same as 2020 so please read “home” as “away” and vice versa in the 2021 handbook. Confirmation of venue will be issued prior to each match”
Members willing to serve on the management committee in any capacity are always required and we urge you to consider volunteering.
Finally, we would welcome any suggestions or ideas that you might have for improving any aspect of our bowling club.
Have a great bowling season in 2021!
Margaret Forrester Chairman Jim Henderson President
