A Joint Message from the Chairman and Club President 2022

Last year was slightly easier, after the lockdown, than 2020, but still had its challenges. Hopefully, this year we will be able to put restrictions behind us and can now look forward to the start of the season in the company of friends in more normal circumstances. Hopefully, those who have been unable to play for the last two years will now be able to join us.

There will be the traditional Opening Day Lunch commencing at 12:00pm,  followed by the official opening of the green and a friendly game of bowls. Opening Day is always an enjoyable event and is very popular.

Last year we were only able to play friendly matches against Riverside and Causewayhead but this year we are hoping all our matches will go ahead. Please watch out for the notices and add your names if you are available. Once again it will be mixed teams. We would urge all members to support the club by participating in these fixtures.

Riverside are celebrating their Centenary with Causewayhead celebrating their 125th Anniversary and have invited us to join them in their celebrations.

We have had interest from a number of people who are considering joining the Club from the start of the season which will be a great addition but please keep your eye open for any potential new members of any age or ability. To encourage people to join we will continue the 50% discount in subscription fee and two months free period for new members. We are in discussion with the Sports Club about a joint Open Day which may benefit us both.

Lorraine Bannon is progressing with her training to become a qualified Coach which will be a great asset to the Club.

Unfortunately, at the end of last year we discovered our defibrillator had to be replaced. We managed to source one with a large discount but it still cost £899. Approximately £250 was raised towards this with our coffee mornings and we would like to thank everyone who attended and made a donation. Hopefully, we’ll be able to raise some extra funds during the season to re-coup the cost.

Members willing to serve on the management committee in any capacity are always required and we urge you to consider volunteering. The smooth operation of the club depends on its members lending a hand when necessary. Please give some thought over the season to lending a hand by serving as a committee member. This year we were fortunate in that we were able to form a Committee which now has the minimum number which allows us to function as a Club. Without the minimum number we will be unable to continue.

The Gold Star Suppers are held on the last Wednesday of the months from May to August and are enjoyable social events and should continue this summer. The food provided at these suppers is cooked by our own members and if any member is willing to help by preparing a course for one of the suppers, then please contact any committee member.

Finally, we would welcome any suggestions or ideas that you might have for improving any aspect of our bowling club.

Have a great bowling season in 2022!
