Ardleigh & District Horticultural Society is a friendly organisation which welcomes everyone. It was founded in 1893 and aims to promote an interest in all aspects of horticulture.
Monthly evening meetings are held from October to May (but not in January) at Ardleigh Methodist Hall (Colchester Road, Ardleigh, CO7 7NP). We have a talk from a guest speaker followed by refreshments and drawing of the raffle.
The Annual Produce Show in mid-August, at Ardleigh Village Hall (Station Road, Ardleigh, CO7 7RS), is an open show and always receives lots of positive comments regarding the quality and quantity of the entries.
A large plant sale is held for a couple of hours on a Saturday morning mid-May, at Ardleigh Village Hall (Station Road, Ardleigh, CO7 7RS).
Membership is just £5 a year. This gives you free entry to all 7 of our monthly meetings and free entry to the Annual Show. You can join at any of the monthly meetings or at the Annual Show (for the next season).
It is with great regret, that due to continuing Covid-19 uncertainty and the restrictions that would need to be put in place to hold our meetings, Ardleigh & District Horticultural Society Committee has made the decision to cancel the Society’s October, November & December meetings this year.
We sincerely hope that we will be able to start again in February 2021.
Membership for 2019-2020 will be carried forward to 2020-2021, i.e. current members will not have to pay any membership subscription for the 2020-2021 season.
Normally the October meeting would start with the Society’s Annual General Meeting. As the meeting is not taking place, we will send the normal paperwork to current members via email in early October (or post to those members that we do not have an email address for).
We will still be running the discount seed scheme this year. During September we will deliver the Kings Seeds catalogues to anyone that ordered through the Society last year. We hope to get a big enough order to obtain 50% discount, like we have over the past few years. If you didn’t order last year but are interested in doing so this year, please let the society know so that we can get a catalogue to you.
As you can appreciate the main focus must be to keep everyone as safe as possible, in these unprecedented times.
You can join the Society at any meeting or at the Annual Show.
