Bloom & Create Pottery Session Brings Creativity and Community Together at Loraine

The Bloom & Create Children’s Pottery Session, held on 14 February at Loraine Community Centre, was a wonderful celebration of creativity, imagination, and neighbourly connection. The event welcomed a fantastic turnout of residents, families, and children, who filled the hall with energy, laughter, and artistic enthusiasm throughout the afternoon.

Children proudly crafted beautiful clay cups, bowls, and jugs, learning pottery techniques and experimenting with textures and shapes. Many others explored air-dry clay modelling, producing an impressive collection of colourful miniature sculptures — from animals and flowers to imaginative characters and decorative pieces that showcased their creativity and confidence.

Painting tables were equally busy, with children and parents working side by side on vibrant artworks. Some created bright abstract designs and heartfelt paintings, while others experimented with brushes and colours for the first time.

A beading station added even more variety, where children carefully designed and made their own bracelets to take home.

A highlight of the day was the fun Photo Booth corner, where children made funny poses and captured joyful moments using a Polaroid camera. The instant photos added a touch of vintage fun and gave children a special keepsake to take home — a memory of a day filled with creativity and laughter.

The atmosphere was warm, relaxed, and welcoming, with neighbours chatting, children collaborating, and families enjoying refreshments and snacks together. The session truly reflected the spirit of the Loraine community — inclusive, supportive, and joyful.

A huge thank you goes to our wonderful young volunteers Yasmin, Hafsa, Ayisha, Innaya & Amana, who supported the session brilliantly and carried out their roles with enthusiasm and responsibility. Their help made a real difference and helped everything run smoothly.

Special appreciation goes to Pauline Finnegan, whose pottery expertise, patience, and encouragement guided participants throughout the session. Her skill and dedication made it possible for children and adults alike to discover new talents and enjoy hands-on creative learning.

We were also delighted to welcome Councillor  Claire Zammit, who dropped in to support the event and cheer everyone on. Her presence meant a great deal to residents and highlighted the importance of community-led initiatives like this.

Thank you to all neighbours, parents, and grandparents who attended and made the day so special. And a heartfelt thank you to Hana, Yahya, Dawud, and Ayisha for helping with the setup — your support helped make the event a success.

Events like this show what can happen when a community comes together: creativity flourishes, friendships grow, and shared spaces become places of joy, learning, and connection.
