The documents in this section relate to the plans in 2021 submitted for public consultation by Mole Valley District Council with a view to outlining proposed development in the Dorking area.
The council have re-classified various areas of green belt land to 'Former Green Belt/Built Up Area' which will allow developers to submit plans for the construction of new homes with the addition of traveller pitches in areas formerly classified as green belt.
In their own classification system the council have identified these areas as making a 'moderate' contribution to the green belt but have still gone ahead with the re-classification by downgrading them from having a 'moderate' contribution to the green belt to having a 'minimal' contribution to the green belt by using very subjective classification criteria.
There are currently 142 golf courses in Surrey and yet none of them have been identified for re-classification. It appears that if you belong to the golfing fraternity your leisure activities are protected whilst us lesser mortals are exposed to the vagaries of political decision making.
