Ware Community Orchestra was started in May 2017 following a one-off pop-up community orchestra day. The Ware Pop Up Orchestra event brought 36 players ranging in age from 8 to 80 together for the first time,  for an afternoon of relaxed orchestral music-making. The aim was to provide an opportunity for rusty players and dusty instruments to get an airing – but we actually attracted a wide range of musicians with a varying levels of experience.
As we enjoyed ourselves on the Pop Up day, we chatted about ‘doing it again’ and so after a brief consultation of the crucial details – what kind of biscuits should be have a tea break etc, we decided to start a new regular orchestra. But, good news, it’s not too regular, so it won’t interfere with our already busy lives too much, but does give us a chance to do some music-making, which is only a great thing!
We meet once a month, on Sunday afternoons at Leaside Church and Community Centre in Ware High Street. We enjoy playing through a range of fairly light-ish, orchestral repertoire that is specially chosen, and sometimes specially arranged for a mixed-ability, slightly-different-players-every-week kind of group.
We do not plan for concerts, and players can come and not come as they wish. It’s run on a pay-as-you-play basis, £5.00 per 3 hour session, payable on the day, into the purple tin –  old school!
