Our story started in March 2024 when after a rough winter spent floundering in the frothy, powerful swells of Cayton Bay🌊🌊🌊 a couple of us were chatting about how great it would be if we had a sea pool back in Scarborough again. How great would it be for us to feel safer and swim more regularly all year round or when the sea is rough. Fast forward through a few emails to some local North Yorkshire Councillors and Councillor Rich Maw picked up the idea and encouraged us to gather more information to present it to the Scarborough and Whitby Area Committee.
An initial consultation event helped us produce a summary of the benefits of a sea pool.
In October 2024 the Scarborough and Whitby Area Committee approved funding for a feasibility study, this was managed through the Council’s Regeneration Team and Studio Octopi won the tender, the feasibility study was completed and presented to the Council in June 2025, then handed over to us.
We now start the next chapter, raising more support, funds and ... onwards.
