The Romans
Ribchester Roman Museum is dedicated to the Romano-British history of Bremetenacum Veteranorum, the Roman name for Ribchester.
www.roman-britain.org contains information about almost every Roman settlement, fort, camp and quarry in the British Isles, including Ribchester.
Legio II Augusta have become regular visitors to Ribchester. Their website includes a host of information on Roman civil and military life.
King Cotton
Cottontown tells the story of cotton manufacturing, from its origins as a cottage industry, through the boom times when Cotton was King, and on to its eventual decline.
Lancashire History
The Lancashire County Council website contains some excellent resources. Look at some Old Maps of Lancashire, including this 1890 OS Map of Ribchester and this 1950s OS Map of Longridge (including Ribchester). The site also has some interesting information on Roman Roads in Lancashire and other Historic Highways in the county.
Lancashire County Council had recently published a series of reports about the historic towns of Lancashire.
