The Lydian Choir is a group of dedicated and experienced musicians which performs concerts in Scunthorpe and the surrounding area under the musical direction of Susan Hollingworth. We aim to present several concerts a year, usually combining a variety of choral music and solo performances by local musicians. The choir began life in 1975 in Scunthorpe. It was created by Charles Edmondson, (Humberside County Music Adviser) who was the conductor for many years. Singers are drawn from the North Lincolnshire area.
In recent years, the choir has forged international links, with three singing tours to the French Alps as well as a trip to Southern Spain. The choir totals about 40 singers and has been conducted by Susan Hollingworth for over 10 years. The repertoire of the choir is varied and this is reflected in the choir’s concert programmes, which often begin with sacred music and end with something amusing. In between, there may be folk songs, spirituals, and perhaps a few madrigals. The choir normally sings unaccompanied. There are a number of experienced soloists in the Lydian Choir, both vocally and on a variety of instruments. Concert programmes often feature one or more of them.
