Ludlow Nature Reserve: A New Beginning for Our Community
Despite the wind and rain, our recent celebration was a powerful testament to what a community can achieve through collaboration. Ludlow Nature Reserve has been transformed into a safer, more welcoming space where residents, wildlife, and nature can thrive side by side.
This milestone marks the completion of Phase 1, but our work doesn’t stop here. With continued support, we are already looking ahead to securing funding for Phase 2 to build upon this vital green foundation.
Phase 1 Improvements: Investing in Our Future
We have introduced several key enhancements designed to improve accessibility and biodiversity:
- Accessible Pathways: A safe new route around the open space and through the woodland, featuring a brand-new boardwalk.
- Climate Resilience: Installation of swales to prevent waterlogging and create diverse new wildlife habitats.
- Tree & Meadow Planting: Over 80 trees were planted, with further community planting on November 29th. A new wildflower meadow will provide essential support for pollinators come spring.
- New Amenities: We have replaced a single old bench with five new ones in prime locations, including two beautiful rustic benches generously donated by Maydencroft.
This project was a true team effort. Special thanks to:
- The Project Team: Nabeela for her steadfast management; Lee Williams and Stefania for their dedication to securing and maintaining funding; and Kayleigh and the Countryside Team for their hard work on site.
- The Contractors: Martin and the Maydencroft team for their tireless work.
- Sophia at Habitats & Heritage for her valued support.
- Community & Volunteers: The Friends of Ludlow Nature Reserve and all our local supporters—you made this happen. The great team of Hounslow Health & Care Bus for providing vital onsite services throughout the day.
- Local Leadership: Mayor of Hounslow Amy Croft and MP Seema Malhotra for joining our celebration.
- Local Support: Councillors Farah Kamran and Vishnu Gurung; Cllr Kamran provided a variety of cakes, samosas & hot refreshments to keep everyone well fed & warm.
- Local Businesses: Tracy Buckley of Brentford Florist for the festive display and all our wonderful stallholders.
- Youngest Supporter: Evan who on the day, and with help from Martin of Maydencroft planted the last of the trees!
