Excursion to Blackpool - please note: payments to be made on the day

Wednesday 10th July

Blackpool Promenade History walk starting at 11:00 am.

A 1 mile walk starting from Wilton Parade tram shelter opposite the Imperial Hotel (FY1 2HB) to Comedy Carpet at the foot of Blackpool Tower.  The tour passes 23 historic landmarks from the Victorian era to the present day. An opportunity to discover the heritage of north Promenade while enjoying the sea views.  Duration 1 to 1½ hr walk.  The gradient of the walk is flat.

Group size 10 to 20 ish                                  Cost £6

Blackpool Showtown Museum

Tour start time 1:30 pm.

An opportunity to discover the stories of the comedians, dancers, acrobats and characters who turned Blackpool into a home of show business.  There are six galleries which showcase the seaside, magic, circus, Illuminations, shows and dance.  It is hoped that an audio presentation will be available either through a loaned ipad or your smart phone.  Visits normally last about 1½ to 2 hr.  There is a gift shop but no café.

Entrance at corner of Adelaide St. West and Bank Hey St. (FY1 4TQ) near Blackpool Tower.

Group size 10 to 35                                        Cost £11.25

Both the promenade walk and the museum are wheelchair accessible.

Blackpool bus route 1A (hourly service) and trams operate between the Tower and Wilton Parade.

When booking please indicate whether you are going on one or both the morning and afternoon tours, whether you are a concession, and how many in your group.  Payments to be made on the day.

 

Lancashire Conservation Studio tour

St. Mary’s St. (behind Preston prison)

Date: Wednesday 17th July.  Time: 10:00am

Tours take about 2 hours

Tours limited to between 8 and 14.  If there is sufficient interest it may be possible to arrange another visit.

Price £9.40 or £7.20 for concessions. Pay at the door.

 

Garstang Historical Society Summer Outing - Furness Abbey, Ulverston, Lakeside to Bowness

Date: Thursday 20th July.  Time:  9:00am

In previous years several of us have joined Garstang Historical Society’s on their summer outings.  This year’s outing is on Thursday 20th July to the Furness area of Cumbria and is as follows:

A coach leaves from a bus stop at Booth’s Garstang store (at entrance to the car park) at 9.00am.

Arrives in Furness Abbey (English Heritage site) for a 2 hr stay.

Coach back to Ulverston for a 1 hr stop for lunch &/or visit to Thursday Market (own arrangements for lunch).

Coach leaves for Haverthwaite for the steam train to Lakeside then the Windermere ferry to Bowness.

A 1 hr free time in Bowness before return coach to Garstang.  Arrive Garstang about 6.00pm.

Cost £34 each, £5 reduction for English Heritage members.
