Swifts have been finding nests in our buildings since Roman times - but where do they choose to nest in Lewes?
Here are some of the sites which the Swifts have chosen for themselves. The arrows show the entry points.
In a gap under the soffit board
Under the fascia
Between the soffit and the wall
Between the purlings
Taking advantage of a missing soffit board
Using a space left by a missing air brick
Swifts have also begun to notice the nest boxes we have installed to help their colonies to expand! Twelve of the spaces in boxes were occupied in 2025.
