Music Hire Code of Practice

KCS aims to make music available for members to hire at reasonable cost. To help achieve this, we ask members to comply with this code.

Ordering your Music
  1. Always submit your music request when asked to do so by the Librarian. Missing  the deadline makes it harder to source music cost-effectively.
  2. If too few scores are available for members, the Librarian will allocate them on a first-come-first-served basis.
Maintaining Effective Partnerships with Music Libraries

We rely on good relationships with music libraries, who require us to return scores:

  • on time
  • in the same condition as when they came to us, and
  • with markings removed.

So we can fulfil these requirements, we ask you to:

I Return your music no later than the day of the concert

• If you are attending or singing in the concert, put your music in one of the designated crates at the venue.
• If you will not be at the concert, contact the Librarian beforehand to arrange to return your music.
• If you haven’t returned your music before or at the concert, arrange with the Librarian as soon as possible to do so.
• Members who fail to return music on time are expected to meet any resulting additional costs, including library fines.

II Look after your music and return it in good condition, with markings carefully removed

• Only make necessary markings lightly in soft pencil that is easy to erase.
• Before the concert, review your markings and rub out those you no longer need, so you have fewer to remove at the end of the concert.
• If you feel too rushed to clean up your scores at the end of a concert, please think again. You will have ample time to erase markings before we remove the music crates from the concert venue.
• It is not fair to expect the Librarian to remove your markings.
