South West Trains has asked for permission to install more lights “to bring the illumination levels of the station in line with current safety standards”.
The company has also applied this week to carry out renewal work to platform canopies.
A spokesman for the South West Trains-Network Rail Alliance said: "We know our passengers have faced a considerable amount of disruption during recent weeks as we work to deliver improvements to our ageing infrastructure and provide extra capacity and improved reliability on our trains.
“We are sorry that passengers have been affected by overrunning engineering work.
“We have followed this up as a matter of priority with the contractors and engineers delivering the works who are reviewing future engineering work to ensure that they do not let our passengers down again.”
A car has hit a brick wall and crashed into a bus after attempting to travel the wrong way down the one way system in Kingston town centre.
A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with three alleged sexual assaults on board buses in Kingston and Twickenham. He was arrested on June 5 on suspicion of a sexual assault on a child and two counts of sexual activity in the presence of a child.

A double-decker bus careered into the grounds of a community centre last night. Police said the 111 bus crashed into a pickup truck and a lamp post before smashing through the fence of Linden Hall, in Linden Road, Hampton.
The Government has been urged to get behind ambitious proposals to bring Crossrail 2 to south-west London. The plan is backed by London's mayor, Boris Johnson, who said the case for Crossrail 2 was "incontestable".
London First’s proposed route would involve building an underground tunnel from Wimbledon to Tottenham Hale via Tooting Broadway, Clapham Junction, and a number of central London stops.
MP Zac Goldsmith visited Network Rail’s signalling centre after complaints from constituents about the amount of time they spent waiting at level crossings. He visited the centre in Wimbledon and was told it was not uncommon for barriers to be down for about 40 minutes in an hour, although averages down times tended to be about three minutes.
