Volunteer With Us
We welcome volunteers who want to make a meaningful difference to the lives of Irish and Travellers prisoners in England and Wales. Our volunteers offer connection, understanding, and practical support, helping to reduce isolation and promote dignity, hope, and wellbeing.
Volunteering with us is compassionate, flexible, and values‑driven. We offer a range of roles to suit different skills, interests, and levels of availability.
Volunteer Roles Available
We are currently seeking volunteers for a variety of roles, including:
🤝 Befriending
Provide regular, supportive contact to people in prison through visits, letters, or approved communication methods. Befriending helps reduce loneliness and build trusted, consistent relationships.
💬 Pastoral Care
Offer emotional and pastoral support in a non‑judgemental and culturally sensitive way, respecting individual beliefs, identities, and experiences.
👂 Empathic Listening
Create safe, supportive spaces for people to share their thoughts and feelings. This role focuses on listening with compassion, without judgement or pressure to advise.
🗂️ Administration
Support the organisation behind the scenes with tasks such as data entry, correspondence, record‑keeping, and general administrative support.
💷 Fundraising
Help sustain and grow our work by supporting fundraising activities, assisting with grant applications, planning events, or engaging with supporters.
✉️ Pen Pals
Provide regular written contact to people in prison who are seeking encouragement and connection, following clear communication and safeguarding guidelines.
📱 Social Media Administrator
Support our communications by helping to manage social media platforms, scheduling posts, sharing updates, and raising awareness of our work and campaigns.
Safer Recruitment
For the safety of volunteers, staff, and the people we support:
All volunteer roles require a DBS check
References are required for all volunteers
These are standard safeguarding requirements for working with people in prison and vulnerable adults.
Training and Support
Full training is provided for all volunteer roles
Volunteers will receive:
- Role‑specific training
- Safeguarding and confidentiality guidance
- Ongoing supervision and support
- Opportunities for learning, reflection, and development
No previous experience of prison work is required. We value empathy, reliability, and a commitment to respect, dignity, and inclusion.

Déan teagmháil rialta agus tacaíoch le daoine sa phríosún trí chuairteanna, litreacha nó modhanna cumarsáide ceadaithe. Cuidíonn cairdeas le haonrú a laghdú agus caidrimh iontaofa, chomhsheasmhacha a thógáil.
💬 Cúram Tréadach
Tabhair tacaíocht mhothúchánach agus thréadach ar bhealach neamhbhreithiúnach agus íogair ó thaobh cultúir de, ag urramú chreidimh, aitheantais agus taithí phearsanta gach duine.
👂 Éisteacht Fheiliúnach
Cruthaigh spás sábháilte agus tacúil do dhaoine a gcuid smaointe agus mothúchán a roinnt. Díríonn an ról seo ar éisteacht le trua, gan breithiúnas ná brú comhairle a thabhairt.

Soláthair teagmháil scríofa rialta le daoine sa phríosún atá ag lorg spreagtha agus comhluadair, de réir treoirlínte soiléire cumarsáide agus cosanta.
📱 Riarthóir Meán Sóisialta
Cuidigh lenár gcumarsáid trí ardáin meán sóisialta a bhainistiú, postálacha a sceidealú, nuashonruithe a roinnt agus feasacht a ardú ar ár gcuid oibre agus feachtais.
Earcaíocht Shábháilte

- Teastaíonn seiceáil DBS ó gach oibrí deonach
- Teastaíonn tagairtí ó gach oibrí deonach

Oiliúint agus Tacaíocht

- Oiliúint shonrach don ról
- Treoir maidir le cosaint agus rúndacht
