In the Olympic Games we see the universal power of sport to bring people together from across different countries, religions and ideologies.
‘Sport is a wonderful tool that provides a beautiful opportunity to play, work and enjoy togetherness despite differences’, says Irfan Francis, sports coordinator at the Bible Society of Pakistan.
And he would know. In Pakistan, where religious tension is commonplace, Ifran and his team have been using sports to foster healthy inter-faith relationships in ‘harmony matches’. Before each match they share a message from the Bible on a sport-related theme like self-control, perseverance and humility. ‘Through this strategy we have seen behavioural changes in many sportsmen,’ Ifran says.
