Friends of Rising Sun Country Park

Rising Sun was created by sculptor Wendy Marshall in 1997. This beautifully carved stone artwork depicts the sun emerging over billowing clouds, with oak leaves arranged below - a symbolic nod to renewal, nature and the landscape that now thrives where industry once stood.

The sculpture was originally installed at the Whitley Road entrance to the Country Park, where it greeted visitors as they arrived. It was later relocated to the Countryside Centre grounds, where it continues to be enjoyed by park users and stands as a reminder of the park’s identity and heritage.
