The Rising Sun Country Park spans 162 hectares and is managed by North Tyneside Council. It offers various outdoor activities, including walking, cycling, horse riding, wildlife observation, and reconnecting with nature. Every Saturday morning, it also hosts the popular Rising Sun Park Run.

Situated in the heart of North Tyneside, this vibrant country park was established in the 1970s on reclaimed land once occupied by the Rising Sun Colliery. The park features a diverse landscape, including:

  • A network of paths
  • Woodlands
  • Ponds
  • Rough grassland
  • Agricultural fields
  • A community farm with livery

At the farm, you'll find independent businesses such as Earth & Fire Artisan Bakery and DLS Falconry. The area surrounding Swallow Pond is designated as a Local Nature Reserve, attracting nature enthusiasts due to its rich variety of birds and wildlife.

The Rising Sun Countryside Centre boasts an excellent cafe with stunning views across Swallow Pond. The cafe serves a range of hot and cold drinks, freshly made sandwiches, homemade soup and legendary scones!  There is also a range of rooms available to hire, for meetings, events and parties.  The Countryside Centre provides a base for the many outdoor groups and societies that meet up each week to use the park.

In 2019, the Rising Sun Country Park was expanded by 35 hectares, a development overseen by Northumberland Estates, which continues to manage this extension of the park.
