The Rising Sun Country Park, managed by North Tyneside Council, is a 162-hectare recreational space providing opportunities for outdoor activities such as walking, cycling, horse riding, watching wildlife and getting back to nature. It is also the venue for the popular Rising Sun Park Run each Saturday morning.
Located in the heart of North Tyneside, this now thriving country park was formed during the 1970s from reclaimed land previously occupied by the Rising Sun Colliery.
The Park is made up of a network of paths, woodlands, ponds, rough grassland, agricultural fields and a community farm with livery. At the farm there is a small bakery, falconry and the award winning Belle & Herb Fermentary (all independently run businesses).
The area around the central, Swallow Pond is designated as a Local Nature Reserve. The abundance of birds and wildlife make it a popular place to visit for nature lovers.
The Rising Sun Countryside Centre boasts an excellent cafe with stunning views across Swallow Pond. The cafe serves a range of hot and cold drinks, freshly made sandwiches, homemade soup and legendary scones! There is also a range of rooms available to hire, for meetings, events and parties. The Countryside Centre provides a base for the many outdoor groups and societies that meet up each week to use the park.
The Rising Sun Country Park was extended in 2019 with 35 hectares of land added by Northumberland Estates. The park extension is managed by Northumberland Estates.
