Volunteering with Friends of Bottesford Beck:
We meet at 9:30am on the 4th Wednesday of each month (Winter months excluded). The location of our meeting point is dependent on the work to be done on the day.
We are planning to have an additional work day on the 2nd Sunday of the month and this will be at the same time and place described previously (start date still to be decided but likely to start in April 2026).
The work generally includes litter picking, removing foreign objects or fallen trees etc., from the Beck (Don't worry about going into the Beck, we have members who are capable to do this work and others help to remove the collected debris from the bank for disposal). We have a Rain Garden positioned by the footpath close to Holme Lane which gets regular attention, and when signage needs cleaning we would deal with that also. If there are branches or shrub growth blocking the path we will cut this back so that it is safe for walkers and cyclists etc. Most of our work is relatively easy, however, when major problems are identified, we involve the Environment Agency or North Lincolnshire Council.
We normally work for around 1-2 hours and have found that we can achieve our daily objectives in this time. If an urgent situation is identified, we will arrange an aditional work day to deal with it.
Whatsapp and email are used to notify the group of any information received from Councils or updates from other agencies. However, Whatsapp is mainly used to inform members of the work day tasks, the meeting point and start time and and is very quick and useful when there is a need to inform members if the work day is cancelled due to bad weather.
