We Love Our Village
==
The Parish is one of the largest in area, in Essex, encompassing the villages of Finchingfield and Cornish Hall End with a combined population of approximately 1300.
Finchingfield is mentioned in the Domesday Book (Finchingfield – the fields of Finc’s people] and has a long history – having a 15th century Guildhall and a 14th century church – St John the Baptist – its massive tower dating from the Norman times. The Guildhall has recently undergone major renovation work – you can visit its website here.
The village pond in Finchingfield is familiar to many visitors and said to be the most photographed village in England [Daily Telegraph 2008]. Apart from its history and significant conservation area, visitors can enjoy the many facilities provided by the shops, pubs and restaurants [please see the Business section of the website]. It also has a thriving primary school and a Health Centre, which together with the many social activities that take place during the year, makes it a very desirable village.
Cornish Hall End is a smaller village with its own electoral ward, some 2.7 miles from Finchingfield and an integral part of the Parish as a whole, with a population of approximately 230. It has an equally interesting church – St John the Evangelist – and a beautifully refurbished Village Hall which along with the Horse & Groom PH is the hub of many social activities.
