March 2024: Empowering Multicultural Communities Alliance (EMCA) was established under the name of Westside Art Base which was based in a unit of Westside Shopping Centre by a group of local artists and activists, with space access generously provided by Outer Spaces and the Management team of the Shopping Centre. Since its founding, Westside Art Base has become a vibrant community space, offering a welcoming environment for artistic creation, cultural expression, and connection-building among local residents.
January 2025: The first official programming at Westside Art Base launched with the support of the Local Cinema Project, marking the beginning of a series of events aimed at bringing people from muticultural backgrounds together through film and shared dialogue.
March 2025: As the mission of the community group evolved—moving beyond community arts programming to focus more deeply on multicultural empowerment, social justice, and community grassroots organising—Westside Art Base was rebranded as the Empowering Multicultural Communities Alliance (EMCA). This change reflects a broader commitment to supporting diverse voices, fostering collective action, and challenging systemic inequalities.
