Multicultural Community Cinema (January – May 2025)

From January to May 2025, Empowering Multicultural Communities Alliance (EMCA) proudly delivered the Multicultural Community Cinema in Edinburgh being part of Local Cinema Project. This initiative was designed to create accessible, community-driven film spaces where stories from around the world could be shared and discussed locally.

Over the course of the project, we screened three films from diverse cultural and political contexts—spanning Bangladesh, Sudan, and Scotland. Each screening opened up opportunities for reflection, conversation, and connection across communities.

Why This Matters

This initiative celebrates cultural diversity through the power of film. By screening films from a variety of cultural backgrounds, it challenges racism and promotes inclusion through increased representation on screen. The project also fosters a sense of belonging by bringing people together to share cinematic experiences, thereby reducing social isolation and building stronger, more connected communities.
