Since its founding, Empowering Multicultural Communities Alliance (EMCA) has been actively engaging with local communities in Wester Hailes and beyond, building partnerships and creating spaces for connection, creativity, and collective action.
In summer 2024, EMCA collaborated with Wester Hailes Growing Communities to deliver a Family Fun Day, bringing together families from across the neighbourhood for a day of activities, food, and celebration.
In spring 2025, with support from the Local Cinema Project, EMCA launched its first Multicultural Community Cinema, screening three international films—from Bangladesh, Sudan, and Scotland—to spark conversation and foster cross-cultural dialogue.
In early summer 2025, EMCA partnered with Media Education and successfully secured funding from the Edinburgh 900. Together, we delivered a community filmmaking project that celebrates the creativity and diversity of the west side of Edinburgh, giving local residents the opportunity to tell their own stories on screen in a positive light.
