August’s vintage tea was again a delightful community event. The hall looked lovely but it would be nothing without you all. See below and the UTW calendar for the next shared events in the village.
Flicks in the Sticks restarted here in September with Song, Sung Blue. The projection and sound equipment is brought in so the quality is excellent. See the UTW calendar for our next three showings – usually but not always on the third Wednesday of the month. If the weather is cold wrap up but we’re aiming to try some additional heating. Check local notice boards or our website or facebook page for the dates and films as these aren’t yet confirmed. In October, prior to Remembrance Day we’re hoping to show The Choral, which takes place in 1917 and has some great British actors. To follow Remembrance Day, in November, we’ve requested Pressure, which has only just been released, about the meteorologists giving the yes/no for D Day - again with some great British actors. And with a view to something nice for Christmas run up we’re aiming to show The Secret Garden. The Flicks in the Sticks catalogue is vast – so if there’s a film you think would be popular, let us know.
We’ve two live music events coming up in the village. On 17th October Heidi Browne will entertain us with her tuneful, beautifully sung and often wry songs about life. She’s been busy and in demand by other musicians since she last played here in 2020 and has now released 7 albums of her songs. The second event switches venue and sees Nigel’s Silver Sounds at St Mary’s Church on 13th November. Nigel performed at the Village Hall earlier this year and triggered much singing and dancing so has been rebooked. The Village Hall is expecting to close in 2029 so a concert in St Mary’s may offer a vision of the future. Please support it.
It’s the Village Hall’s centenary in 2027 so we’re planning some additional events other than those already in the UTW calendar. We will host another ‘village bygone days’ Day on a Saturday – so please look out any photos or stories that will bring the past to life.
For the hall’s centenary tell us what you would like to see, do, join in with or organise.
Let’s make good use of our village hall whilst we have it. For community and for private hire. Check the Under the Wrekin calendar for events.
