Eaton Constantine Village Hall – Time for Jazz and our One-Place Study
Did you spot that GB won a gold medal In Boccia (the indoor bowls game that anyone can play) at the Paris Paralympics? We have a set here at the hall and a court marked out. We sometimes play at Coffee mornings.
In the August sunshine we enjoyed another lovely vintage tea (pictured and note the Boccia court outline!). Many thanks to the organizers, helpers, contributors and attendees, and generous donations for the village hall upkeep.
Our next music event is Band on the Edge, Saturday 16th November. They feature saxophone, trumpet, guitar, keyboard, bass, drums and vocals (pictured). Expect anything from early ragtime, hot jazz numbers from the twenties, ballads and show songs, 30s and 40s swing, Afro jazz, Latin and some Jazz rock styles from the 60s. And yes, there will be some dance numbers.
And to brighten up the New Year look forward to the return of rock ‘n’ rollers Hot Rod 55, Saturday 18th January.
Who lived in our village, where did they live, what did they do?
Almost everyone is interested in their own family or where they live or both. Some of us have photographs and information about the village and villagers (which we occasionally bring out) but we wanted to be more organised and take this further. So we’ve signed Eaton Constantine up with the One-Place Study Society. Our joining has already been spotted by a lady in British Columbia, Canada, who names ancestors buried in our churchyard and wants to exchange information. For St Mary’s Church we have already created a document with a plan, photographs and transcriptions of all the gravestones and other memorials in the churchyard and church. This is just a beginning. We aim to hold an open day next year with what we can gather about who has lived in each house. Please let Geoff know if you are interested, especially if you’d like to help, and whether you have any information (e.g. deeds or photographs or memories) to share.
Do check the UTW calendar for our regular and special events and remember your hall is available to book. The hall is accessible with kitchen facilities. We have wi-fi and are fully licensed for live and recorded music.
