Make Merry with Punch and Carols in the Village Hall – it’s family fun time
Kick off the seasonal community good cheer on the first of December with the Coffee Morning in the Christmas decorated Village Hall. At November’s coffee morning we celebrated a 60th wedding anniversary and were visited by a family who’d spent 60 years here about 60 years ago. But we don’t just look back. We’re looking forward to another fun evening of Punch, Pies and Carols on Friday 12th December.
Continuing the seasonal theme, our Flicks in the Sticks event this month is ‘A Christmas Carol’. This is the 1984 ‘George C Scott as Scrooge’ film shot on location in Shrewsbury. See if you can spot where he goes. It’s on Wednesday 19th December. Our first film ‘Mr Burton’ was popular and if the others are too we’ll continue with Flicks in the Sticks as a cheap entertaining local community evening out. It’s ‘bring your own refreshments’.
Thanks to those few who came to the Village Hall AGM. It was a cold dark night. We’ll try and have the next one on a light spring evening! The committee was re-elected and we’ll keep it going whilst we can. The ‘history of the Village Hall’ presentation will take its place in the Eaton Constantine Village History memory archives which we will aim to bring out again in 2026 as we did in March this year. Villagers met in these places before the village hall.
If you have any old photographs of the village and its people, thoughts or writings that you’d like to preserve in the village’s memory bank we will copy these, add them in and return the originals. Old copies of Under the Wrekin are time capsules and continue to be a great source – see elsewhere in this edition. Our village memories are unique and special in a changing world and worth preserving.
Again, we don’t just look back. Next year we’ll aim to invite everyone for an open discussion about the Village Hall and whether it can have a future beyond 2029. At least we can celebrate its centenary in 2027. Ideas anyone?
