Eaton Constantine Village Hall
“Don’t it always seem to go that you don’t know what you’ve got ‘til its gone. They paved paradise, put up a parking lot” Joni Mitchell (Big Yellow Taxi)
“It [the village] benefits from a church and a village hall” So said an estate agent about Eaton Constantine on a recent house sales brochure.
It was great to see so many people supporting the excellent Mill Beer (and Music etc) Festival on 21st June. Some people I recognised as local. The Mill welcomes visitors from further afield - a friend of mine came from Manchester – but our community centres do rely on local support.
As I write this we are looking forward to another community organised Vintage Tea with our documents about the village, its houses and its history displayed again. There are other local halls. Why not use these? Well, where else could we come together to celebrate our Eaton Constantine stories? And where else could we walk to? This is our hall, your hall. But these days everyone drives. Many do. Some can’t.
So are we winding down the hall? Absolutely not, quite the opposite. We are looking to build up its use. In addition to our regular events we have signed up for Flicks in the Sticks, the rural cinema scheme. Watch this space. Why are we doing this? We are looking to extend community use of the hall, to increase the numbers of our regular and occasional supporters to increase our chance of renewing its lease. Do you agree?
Watch out for the next AGM where you can hear the village hall committee’s views and contribute your own.
