‘Punch Pies and Carols’ was well supported and full of community spirit and festive fun. If you weren’t there there’s always next year.

Hopefully the hall will still be standing in February after we’ve all cooled down from Hot Rod 55 having enjoyed classics from nearly seventy years ago.

Seventy years ago (1953) the Village Hall Accounts reveal one ton of coke (the solid fuel not the drink) was purchased for £5 8s 10d. It’s surprising the hall didn’t burn down. Electric heaters were purchased in 1959. [If you ask the Internet the price of a ton of coke now you get something else entirely. ] Expect another village history event later in the year.

We enjoyed some tasty and beautifully decorated home made Ukranian style biscuits at our first coffee morning of the year . They leapt off the plate as you can see here.

Our Village Hall quiz team played at nearby Cressage in early January. As the road was flooded we had a long detour to get there. One question was ‘how many individuals were prime minister in Queen Elizabeth II’s reign?’. The answer is 15 – but who were they?

Celebrating Village Halls nationally, 18th-22nd March is Village Halls Week. We’re planning to have a Boccia competition with tea and cakes one afternoon for our locals and invite others from local halls. Watch your local notice boards and social media. (Bridge will be shut again so sorry Cressage!)

In April we’re looking to celebrate St George’s Day (23rd) with a catered lunch, like last year’s Coronation Lunch. If you fancy this book early.

And keep the evening of June 6th free to celebrate 80 years since D Day with Kerry Young.

The hall is ‘94 not out’ in March. The lease is for 99 years – so enjoy the hall whilst it’s here.

Do check the UTW calendar for our regular and special events and remember your hall is available to book. The hall is accessible with kitchen facilities. We have wi-fi and are fully licensed for live and recorded music.
