Hi DUGs,
BraveUke 1-3 May
Well, we've been building up to it for months, and the big event is finally here!
15 of our members will be attending, 10 of those will be performing on the Saturday evening.
We will also be taking part in the Ukulele Band Showcase on Sunday afternoon (probably just one song).
Final Rehearsal - 6.30, Wednesday
We will have a final run-through on Wednesday. Can I ask as many of the performers as possible to get to the Rural Hall for a 6.30 start.
A message from the organisers:
Doune Music Night - Saturday, 16th May
We will be performing the same setlist as BraveUke.
This was a great event last year and I am looking forward to it.
The Music Night is a fund raiser for the Doune & Deanston Youth Project.
It is a good local showcase for the DUGs.
More details about timing etc. to follow.
Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain
The Ukulele Orchestra will be playing at the Queen's Hall in Edinburgh, September 7th.
When they played at Perth, about three years ago, a group of us went to see them. It was a brilliant night. I think we should try to get to see them again this year.
New Songs
I will be away next week (6th May), but I leave you in John Gallacher's capable hands.
We have some new songs in the pipeline, so your homework while I'm away is to have a listen to them!
One Day Like This - Elbow
This is a great song, and I've wondered about doing a uke version for a while.
Anyway, while I was scrolling through YouTube, looking for something else, I came across a video by some young people from St Andrews performing it. Their version is beautiful.
Have a look at it: One Day Like This - by Ukelear Fusion
And the original: One Day Like This - Elbow
There is some nice, easy(ish) picking and some lovely vocals. I think DUGs could do a great version of it.
Dave Bright is going to help me put it together (especially the picking parts).
Bohemian Like You
Dave has suggested Bohemian Like You by the Dandy Warhols.
Dave plays this one with Saz's Southside Strummers. I've heard them play it, and it is really good.
Sarah has a YouTube video tutorial. She classes it as a Beginners' song. With just four chords, it is nice and simple, but is a lot of fun to perform.
Check out Saz's video: Bohemian Like You Tutorial - Ukulele Saz
And listen to the original: Bohemian Like You Tutorial - The Dandy Warhols
Far Side of the World
Alison Irvine has suggested Far Side of the World by Tide Lines.
We already do Tide Lines' Walking on the Waves, and this is another cracker from them.
I think this could quickly become another DUG favourite.
Check it out: Far Side of the World by Tide Lines
Robert Robertson performs an acoustic version, also worth a listen: Far Side of the World by Robert Robertson

DUG Song Sheets
Now that we are no longer using printed song sheets at our meetings, all new songs will be put on the website, rather than attached to these emails. If you want to practice any of our songs, you can view/download all our songs here: Our Songs
