Hi DUGs,

Jackie got home from hospital on Thursday afternoon.
The video message we sent her on Wednesday evening must have done the trick.
The surgery went to plan with no complications and she is well on her way to a full recovery.
Thank you all for your good wishes and messages of support - and the lovely flowers - It meant a great deal to us both.

Jackie posted a little note on the Doune Ukulele Group Facebook Page.
For those of you not on Facebook, here it is:

Hello my wonderful friends at Doune Ukulele group. I just wanted to say a huge thank you for the beautiful bouquet of flowers you sent me when I came home from hospital. They cheered me up no end, and the card that came with them had such kind and thoughtful words. I’m overwhelmed, thank you my Doune Ukulele family 💐

Callander Gathering
Saturday, 21st August - Ancaster Square, Lancaster
We are booked to perform a half-hour set from 2.30 - 3.00
The playing area is under cover, so we don't need to worry about the weather (we will be shaded from the blazing sun!)
This is quite a big event and a great showcase for the group. We could do with a good turnout - PLEASE try to get there if you can.

I have also booked a stall for the afternoon, 1.00 - 6.00. It would be good to chat with folks and show them our ukuleles. The stall will also be under cover in one of their marquees.
We only need two or three of us to do this. But if we had one or two more, we could take a break and look around the event.

On Saturday evening, following the event, there will be a Street Ceilidh - So, maybe bring your dancing shoes!

Ukulele Workshop - 4th September
Don't forget, our first Ukulele Workshop will be next week.
Sarah has asked that we perform a couple of songs to give her an idea of what she is working with.
Last Wednesday we chose Shotgun and Part of the Union. They are both on this week's playlist.

Doune Ponds Family Day
Sunday 8th September - Doune Ponds 1.00 - 4.00

The event runs from 1.00 - 4.00. We have been asked to play our half-hour set at 2.00 and 3.00.
We will need to have our gazebo set up by 12.30. I could do with two or three helpers to get this done.

This year the Ponds Volunteer Group celebrate 10 years of managing Doune Ponds, and they will be showing some pictures of past work.
During the afternoon they will be formally opening the new education shelter at the dipping pond, and showing off the results of the children’s 'Our Art' competition.

As well as DUGs, the event will be supported by RSPB, Argaty Red Kites, Talking Tails dog training, traditional bodger, Froglife, and willow weaving. There will also be children’s high strike, balls in a bucket, splat the rat, children’s hand painting, wildflower seeding, and a tombola.

Loch Lomond Strumday
Most of the LLS participants had a practice session in the Rural Hall on Saturday.
They have chosen Western Isles and  Part of the Union for their Group Performance on the day.
We spent a bit of time refining the way we play Part of the Union. We can have another look at it on Wednesday.

This week's playlist is basically, the set list for the Callander Gathering and the Doune Ponds events.

Future Events
We have been approached by Gargunnock WI to perform at their AGM at Briarlands Farm next May. Some of their members were at the 3F meeting at Briarlands, and say they had a lovely time. Nice to know we made a good impression!

A couple of weeks ago, Andy Thompson visited us to talk to us about setting up a Scottish Ukulele Event. It looks like it will go ahead. It will be in Stirling, probably on the first weekend in May next year. The event as called, 'BraveUke'. More on this as it unveils.

DUG Song Sheets
Now that we are no longer using printed song sheets at our meetings, all new songs will be put on the website, rather than attached to these emails. If you want to practice any of our songs, you can view/download all our songs here: Our Songs
