Hi DUGs,
I may not be at Wednesday's meeting, or not for the start anyway. Jackie has her operation on Tuesday afternoon, so it will depend on how she is.
John, our other key holder, is also away on Wednesday.
Marc has very kindly offered to open up. Please be aware, Marc may not get to the Rural Hall quite as early as I usually do, but he will be there. Please be patient.
When he does get there, he will need some help setting up. I'm sure plenty of you will chip in.
If I can, I will get there for at least part of the evening.
We had a very welcome distraction during last week's meeting. Gemma arrived with baby Rosie. It was lovely to see mum and baby (and Grandma!) doing so well 👶❤️
It was also nice to see Grandma take over baby duties for a while and let Gemma get some ukulele time with the group!
Ukulele Workshops
The workshop sessions will run on the first Wednesday of each month, so the first one will be on Wednesday 4th September.
(We might have to look at January. I'm not sure New Year's Day will go down?!)
What should we expect from the first session?
I've had this message from Sarah:
"I have some general ideas in mind so I will get a feel for it after the first session.
I’d be interested to hearing your group playing a couple of songs to get a better idea of the mixture of ability.
I’ll also ask a lot of questions to the group the first week just to get a feel for where everyone is at."
Having a 'real' teacher coming into the group has been my aim (dream) since DUGs first started, so I am absolutely delighted we have reached this stage!
Callander Gathering
Saturday 31st August - Ancaster Square, Callander
I have booked us in to do a half-hour set from 2.30 - 3.00
As well as raising funds and awareness for the Canmore Trust, I think this will be a good showcase for the group.
I would also like to take a stall for the afternoon so we can chat to people about DUGs.
It would be nice to have a good turnout for this event, so please put the date in your diaries.
Loch Lomond Strumday
Sunday 6th October - Kilmaronock Millennium Hall, Gartocharn
Thirteen members will be attending the LLS.
The Rural Hall has been booked for a practice session this Saturday, 24th August, from 2.00 - 3.00 for those involved.
Playlist
Again, thinking of our upcoming performances in Callander and the Doune Ponds.
We are looking at a half-hour set for both (Ponds is more flexible)
I would like us to perform songs that demonstrate the range of stuff we do.
Here is what I propose:
Sunny Afternoon
I'm A Ukulele Player
Budapest
I'm Yours
Texas Hold 'Em
Pencil full of Lead
Belter
Western Isles
Bad Moon Rising
Psycho Killer
I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)
Let's see how these go. As always I am open to alternative suggestions.

DUG Song Sheets
Now that we are no longer using printed song sheets at our meetings, all new songs will be put on the website, rather than attached to these emails. If you want to practice any of our songs, you can view/download all our songs here: Our Songs
