Hi DUGs,
Welcome to this week’s DUGs newsletter! We’ve got plenty to look forward to, including our AGM, a Halloween-themed session, two exciting community events and a brilliant new playlist. Read on for all the details—and plenty of ways to join in.

Annual General Meeting

The Doune Ukulele Group AGM will be held on Wednesday, 11th November.
If there’s anything you’d like us to discuss, please do send it over for the agenda. Every idea is welcome, and your thoughts really do help make DUGs the friendly, enjoyable group it is—thank you!

Dementia Friendly Dunblane

Four of us recently played for the Dementia Group—many thanks to Tom, Andy and Dave. A few female voices would have been welcome, but we put on a good show and it was wonderful to hear so many people singing along.

This Week’s Playlist

Alex has put together this week's playlist. Thanks, Alex, it really does make my job a bit easier.
Alongside Alex’s selection, I’ve included Sweet Child o’ Mine—plus something new. Livin’ la Vida Loca has been on my radar for a while, and Halloween feels like the perfect time to give it a go (see below). There’s also a helpful Ukulele Saz tutorial on YouTube: watch the tutorial.

Folsom Prison Blues
Dirty Old Town
California Blue
Somewhere In My Heart
Sweet Child O' Mine
Whiskey In the Jar
Come Up And See Me
Part Of The Union
Friday I'm In Love
Somewhere In My Heart
Fisherman'sBlues
Rockin All Over The World
Rock 'N' Roll Medley

Halloween 🎃🧛‍♂️🧟👻

Halloween is fast approaching—just two weeks away! We won’t be holding a full-scale party this year, but we’ll still get into the spirit with a Halloween-themed playlist. And do mark your calendars for 2029, when Halloween falls on a Wednesday and we plan to go all out!
Fancy dress is completely optional—but warmly encouraged. It’s always great fun to see everyone’s creativity, so join in if you’d like to!

Teith Fest | Friday–Sunday, 13th–15th November

A brand-new celebration is coming to Doune, and it promises to be a wonderful weekend!
Teith Fest aims to bring renowned music acts to the village, sponsored by Doune Gala Committee and supported by Stirling Pride.
If you can share the details, or if you know anyone who might enjoy the session, full details are on the Teith Fest ticket page.
We’d love as many members as possible to join us. It’s a chance to make a start with the ukulele, experience playing alongside the group and enjoy being part of DUGs. It could also be a great recruiting opportunity—as well as a lot of fun.

Stirling School of English—St Andrew’s Day Ceilidh

Date and time: Monday 23 November, 6.00 pm
Venue: Albert Halls, Dumbarton Road, Stirling, FK8 2QL
Get ready for a festive evening together: Stirling School of English is hosting a St Andrew’s Day ceilidh at the Albert Halls.
We’ve been invited to play a lively 10–15-minute set during the break, which should be great fun. Once the ukuleles are packed away, we can all join the dancing and tuck into some stovies!
The organisers need numbers for catering, so please let us know if you’re planning to come.
We expect to perform at around 7.00 pm. Can’t stay for the full evening? No problem—you’re very welcome to come along just for our set.
Look out for a WhatsApp poll nearer the event, and please respond there if you can make it.
One important date reminder: although St Andrew’s Day falls on Monday 30 November, the ceilidh is one week earlier, on Monday 23 November.
