Hi DUGs,
Please note that our meeting will start slightly later this week. Doune Woodland Group (the volunteers from Doune Ponds) are holding their AGM in the Hall, finishing at 7.30.
This should not cause significant disruption; chairs will already be set out, and I will need only a few minutes to set up the projector and other equipment.
For those kind souls who arrive early most weeks to help me set up, please don't get there too early this week.
All being well, we should be up and running by around 7.45
Annual General Meeting
Speaking of AGMs, we will hold our own Annual General Meeting next Wednesday - 19th November. I will send further details in a separate email soon. If you have items to include on the agenda, please let me know.
Neil Young is 80
Neil Young, my all-time favourite artist, turns 80 on Wednesday. So, I hope you don't mind if I mark the occasion by putting some Neil Young songs on this week's playlist.
We already have two or three of his songs in our song book. Not nearly enough, in my opinion! So, I'm going to add one more.
The range of Neil Young's output is extremely wide. From acoustic folk-rock, and country-rock, grunge, blues, and even synth-pop, through to heavy electric guitar-driven hard rock.
Rockin' In the Free World is in that hard rock genre, but I assure you, it plays really well on the uke! The song taken from his 1989 album, Freedom.
Neil has released more than 50 studio albums over the last six decades, and numerous live albums. Freedom is considered to be in the top ten, with Rockin' In The Free World the best track on the album. It is always a favourite in his live concerts.
If you don't know the song (where have you been for the last 35 years!?!?), give it a listen:
John Gallacher and I were planning to do an open mic spot to perform Heart of Gold, one of Neil Young's best-known songs. But, unfortunately, as I haven't been very well for the last couple of weeks, we haven't been able to get together to rehearse it. And, while I am intending to be there on Wednesday, I don't think I'd be up for an open mic. Certainly not the harmonica solos on Heart of Gold. But I'm sure we will do it soon.
Playlist
We will revisit “Chasing Cars” to address some of last week’s issues, aiming for progress before Sarah returns on 3rd December. The remainder of the playlist will feature Neil Young songs and tracks he has covered:
Rockin' in the Free World
Chasing Cars
Teach Your Children
Blowin' in the Wind
Four Strong Winds
Harvest Moon
DUG Song Sheets
Now that we are no longer using printed song sheets at our meetings, all new songs will be put on the website, rather than attached to these emails. If you want to practice any of our songs, you can view/download all our songs here: Our Songs
