Hi DUGs,
Newsletter is coming out a bit last minute this week, I've had a busy few days.
As well as the Loch Lomond Strumday on Sunday, Jackie had a hospital appointment in Glasgow on Tuesday, so we managed to get along to the Southside Strummers last night (Ukulele Saz's group). What a blast! If you ever get a chance, pop in. It's at the Granary pub in Shawlands every Tuesday night, and DUG members are always welcome.
Halloween 🎃🧛♂️🧟👻
It's only three weeks away!
As in previous years, I'm not suggesting a full-on Halloween Party (mind you, in 2029, it falls on a Wednesday - we will be going all out - be warned! 😉 ), but we will have a Halloween themed playlist.
Dressing up, while optional, is strongly recommended!
I would also like to encourage some open mic performances - individuals or small groups - Come on, have a go! Look on the Halloween section in our song book, or come up with something new.
Loch Lomond Strumday
16 of us attended the Strumday, and we had a brilliant time.
The Loch Lomond Group made us all welcome and put on a super event, as always.
All the rehearsals certainly paid off. Our performances went very well... after a shaky start.
DUGs, you really need to get somebody to count you in... the guy you have now is pretty hopeless!
I managed to get good videos of our performances. I'll put them on our YouTube channel as soon as I get some time.
Workshop - 22nd October
Sarah (Ukulele Saz) will be coming to us in a couple of weeks.
I had a chat with her last night, and I have asked her to do Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol.
Those of us who went to the Findhorn Festival had a go at this with Sarah. We all said we would love the DUGs to do it.
It has plenty of easy playing, so you can concentrate on performance. But it also has some real challenges for our more advanced players. And it all blends together beautifully - you are in for a treat!
As always, it will really help if you know the original song. I would urge you all to listen to it as often as you can over the next couple of weeks:
Dunblane Dementia Group
On Sunday 26th October, we will be performing for the Dunblane Dementia Group at the Braeport Centre in Dunblane, from 2-4pm.
Full details are on our website:
It will not be the usual 'Play-along' that we do for the Dementia groups.
They are holding the event to thank the community for all their support. We will performing/background music.
This means we can put in a few of our more recent songs that may not necessarily be suitable for play-alongs
At the time I accepted this booking, a reasonable number of members indicated they would be able to attend.
We won't play anything complicated or difficult, so if you can spare the time, please come along.
Playlist
Last week, we worked on a few songs that needed a little polish. I think this was very successful, and I'd like to carry on with this again this week.
I am also putting in a new song* that will be good for Halloween. I might even add a new song or two on the night, but this one needs a bit of work first.
Fisherman's Blues
I'll Tell Me Ma
*Devil in Disguise
Sit Down
Mr Tambourine Man
House of the Rising Sun
Walking on Sunshine
DUG Song Sheets
Now that we are no longer using printed song sheets at our meetings, all new songs will be put on the website, rather than attached to these emails. If you want to practice any of our songs, you can view/download all our songs here: Our Songs
