Hi DUGs—hope you’re all keeping well!
There’s lots to look forward to in the weeks ahead. First, please do save the date for our Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, 11th November. It’s a valuable chance for all of us to come together, share ideas and help shape the group’s year ahead, and we’d be delighted to have as many members there as possible.
Annual General Meeting
The Doune Ukulele Group AGM will be held on Wednesday, 11th November.
If there’s anything you’d like us to discuss, please do send it over for the agenda. Every idea is welcome, and your thoughts really do help make DUGs the friendly, enjoyable group it is—thank you!
Dementia Friendly Dunblane
Venue: Braeport Centre, Dunblane, FK15 0AT
Date and time: Friday 9 October, 1.30 pm
Free that afternoon? We’d love to have you with us! Please let me know, so I can prepare enough songbooks/music stands.
Come along and join the fun—the more voices and ukuleles, the merrier!
With songbooks ready for the audience, there should be plenty of chances for everyone to join in. Expect a cheerful, feel-good afternoon filled with familiar tunes.
For full details, visit the Events Calendar.
Teith Fest
Friday-Sunday, 13th–15th November
A brand-new celebration is coming to Doune, and it promises to be a wonderful weekend!
Teith Fest aims to bring renowned music acts to the village, sponsored by Doune Gala Committee and supported by Stirling Pride.
We’re delighted to have been invited to host an ‘Introduction to the Ukulele’ session on Saturday morning, 14th November. Members of the public can pick up a ukulele, have a go and sing along with us. It’s a brilliant chance to support this new village event, share the joy of playing together—and perhaps give a warm welcome to a few new members too.
Admission will be free, but places must be booked in advance.
If you can share the details, or if you know anyone who might enjoy the session, full details are on the Teith Fest ticket page.
Stirling School of English—St Andrew’s Day Ceilidh
Date and time: Monday 23 November, 6.00 pm
Venue: Albert Halls, Dumbarton Road, Stirling, FK8 2QL
Get ready for a festive evening together: Stirling School of English is hosting a St Andrew’s Day ceilidh at the Albert Halls.
We’ve been invited to play a lively 10–15-minute set during the break, which should be great fun. Once the ukuleles are packed away, we can all join the dancing and tuck into some stovies!
The organisers need numbers for catering, so please let us know if you’re planning to come.
We expect to perform at around 7.00 pm. Can’t stay for the full evening? No problem—you’re very welcome to come along just for our set.
There will be a WhatsApp poll nearer the event, and please respond there if you can make it.
One important date reminder: although St Andrew’s Day falls on Monday 30 November, the ceilidh is one week earlier, on Monday 23 November.
Loch Lomond Strumday
We all had a fantastic time at the Strumday. Finlay Allison’s workshop was full of helpful tips that we may be able to use with DUGs, and our two songs went very well. I managed to get videos of the performance and, once I’ve had time to process and edit them, I’ll share them with you.
Playlist
We’re keeping things nice and easy this week, with nothing too complicated—just a relaxed selection of favourites so we can enjoy playing, singing and being together!
