Hi DUGs,
A big welcome to our two new members, Ann and Jennie.
Hope you both enjoy strumming with the DUGs!
UKULELE WORKSHOP
This week sees Sarah's return, after the Christmas break.
We are going to look at the Twelve-Bar Blues.
Wikipedia defines this as:
The twelve-bar blues (or blues changes) is one of the most prominent chord progressions in popular music. The blues progression has a distinctive form in lyrics, phrase, chord structure, and duration. In its basic form, it is predominantly based on the I, IV, and V chords of a key. Mastery of the blues and rhythm changes are "critical elements for building a jazz repertoire"
What Wikipedia doesn't tell you is how much fun it can be!
Sarah says,
Twelve-bar blues is good fun because you can play around with the strumming. There are so many songs that use the 12 bar blues and a number of different theory techniques and tricks that you can learn along the way too. There’s the little turnaround we can learn too.We could look at 12 bar blues structure of chords (and memorise them of course!)Rhythm - swing rhythm and some easy but fun ways to play the rhythm pattern togetherMelody (Turnaround) - the little riff at the end and some variations of that tooI can also show you how to change it to a different key so you can try it with different chords too!We could have some real fun with it.

Future Performances
Thanks to all those of you who responded to my appeal.
I'm fairly confident (and les stressed) about all the upcoming commitments, apart from the Gargunnock WI at Briarlands farm. I've only got six or seven of us. As we know, from last year, it is a very big room and I don't think we can go ahead withless than 10 or 12 players.
Doune Dementia Group
We will be playing for the Dementia Group this Thursday, 6th February.
We will start playing at 1.30pm. But I've been told that if we get there for around 1.00pm, we'll be just in time for tea and cakes!
Up to now I have about half a dozen of us. If you think you can make it... the more the merrier!
